Hideouts for two and group getaways

Two things we feel are very important in life are places to escape to – maybe on your own, maybe not, maybe in the middle of nowhere, maybe not – and places where you can gather the troops and have a good old catch up. This month we’ve a collection of our favourites to more than meet these requirements, and a few new members of the Further Afield collection to add to your wish list.

Hiding Out

Sometimes you just want to get away, right? Head somewhere different where you can explore or just recharge. The Further Afield collection is full of places perfect for doing that, but sometimes it’s nice to be somewhere where it’s just you. Breakfast in bed. An afternoon on the sofa. That kind of thing. These members of the collection provide your own front door which you can close on the world, or open up and head straight to the action. Your call.

Vouni hideaway for two

Vouni hideaway for two

The stone walls of this beautifully-designed pad envelope you as you step through the front door. Décor is soothing and calm. The private pool and terrace stunning. If you force yourselves out there’s loads to do. If not, there’s a great kitchen to store the wine in – and a great coffee machine. Magic.

Ard Daraich Garden Studio

Ard Daraich Garden Studio

Tucked away in the beautiful gardens of Ard Daraich (which you can rent too if there’s more of you) is this lovely one-bedroomed retreat. It provides a perfect setting for whatever the Scottish weather throws at you and an excellent base for exploring this stunning region.

Les Gites de Rigaudou

Les Gites de Rigaudou

Rolling Dordogne countryside surrounds these idyllic cabins for two, and the lavender filled gardens just ooze Frenchness. There are a huge amount of things to do nearby, including great walks, castles to visit, but also lovingly crafted interiors to hideaway in.

Palazzo Orsucci Apartment

Palazzo Orsucci Apartment

For something a bit different head to the beautifully kept secret of Lucca and this huge apartment in the centre of its old town. With its frescos and dimensions, it feels like a mini palace for two. Step out the front door and you’re a minute’s stroll to café-filled squares and ancient landmarks.

A gathering of the clan

Getting together a group of your favourite people and heading off for a few days is sometimes just the tonic. Reconnect. Recharge. Make new memories. Our advice is to make sure you have enough room to give everyone their space when they need it. These places to stay provide ideal venues for a larger group.

Big Barn

Big Barn (up to 10)

This converted Devon barn’s vibrant and chic interior contrasts beautifully with its traditional architecture and rural location. Set on a rolling 136 acre farm, you’re truly getting away from it all, but venturing out there are beaches, pubs and walks aplenty.

Chateau Le Chiron

Chateau Le Chiron (up to 12)

Imagine you suddenly discover you are a member of the French elite. You’re whisked away to the stylish family seat in central France. This is it. Beautiful, well connected, with catering available and discounts for smaller groups. The interior is stunning, your host on hand but unobtrusive and the pool is just lovely.

The Beach House

The Beach House, Cape Town (up to 8)

Slightly Further Afield than some, but this stunning beach side house in Cape Town’s exclusive Llandudno is designed to soak up its views and relax your soul. There’s great inhouse entertainment for when you aren’t by the pool or on the beach and as a Further Afield traveller there’s a mixed case of wine waiting for you on arrival.

Cliff Barns

Cliff Barns (up to 18)

A ‘Rancho-Deluxe’ styled, fun-filled, decadent, party-pad of a house! Cliff Barns is truly unique. Designed to facilitate the best party weekend, with dressing up boxes, huge hot tub and catering available, it’s the perfect place to go with a group of friends. And the beautiful Norfolk coastline is not far away for when you need to clear you head.
