Belle Grove

Suffolk, England

Exotic Suffolk luxury

From ripe mangos by way of welcome to the ‘for rent’ beach hut down the road in Southwold, these self-catering properties sleeping two to eight offer an unusual twist on luxury accommodation. With textiles, furnishings and an oriental style gathered from around the world, the cottages are opulent and comfortable – in a delightfully rural English setting.

Location

Belle Grove is in the heart of the Suffolk countryside on the outskirts of the village of Westhall. It is only two miles north of the town of Halesworth and seven miles inland from Southwold and the stunning Heritage Coast. Situated between the countryside and the sea – from walks to historic towns and lovely beaches – this accessible coastline has plenty to offer.

100 miles north of London – 2.5 hours drive The nearby town of Halesworth has a railway station – trains every hour from Liverpool Street via Ipswich. The owners are happy to pick up by arrangment but the location means visitors benefit from a car or bicycle.

About The Owners

Nick and Jo met when Jo booked onto a Trans African overland trip organised by Nick (a signed copy of Jo’s book about the 30 years that followed is available on site) and so it was that the barns at Belle Grove were used for storage of their overland equipment... But following a major renovation project including the digging of the two large wild ponds, the barns have now been beautifully restored. Feedback from regular guests testifies to the success of this idea – and the cottages truly reflect their owners’ colourful adventures!

  • From fair trade products to solar panels and wildlife gardens, Belle Grove has a clear focus on sustainability which we thoroughly embrace.
  • We also embrace the comfort and fascination of this emporium of antiques, textiles, rugs and objects collected by owners Nick and Jo on their world trips.
  • Of course the Beach Hut is a fabulous treat – heading off with beach towels, sandwiches and books – and of course leaving them all safely behind in the Hut for a wander in the classic seaside town of Southwold.
  • The wealth of opportunities for exploring that Nick and Jo offer up – you need never have a moment of wondering what to do or where to go.
  • Ignoring the day trips and enjoying the simple charms of your exotic (yes, kiwi fruit and figs thriving here...) courtyard garden on a sunny afternoon.

  • There are five heavily timbered cottages sleeping two to eight in this award winning property. Voted ‘Self- Catering Holiday Provider of the Year’ in the prestigious Visit England Awards for Excellence 2012. With under floor heating, oriental rugs and an exotic style throughout, this is comfortable, high quality accommodation that can be rented separately or together for 18 guests.
  • Each cottage has its own distinct character with open-plan living spaces, fully equipped kitchens with granite worktops and Ranger cookers; as well as washing machines, dishwashers and a microwave.
  • From ornate mirrors to thick towels and cotton bathrobes, each bathroom with either digital showers over the bath or wet room walk-in showers, has its own individual style.
  • With free WiFi, high quality sound systems, TV, DVD, books and maps, the cottages have everything you need to flop at home or plan a trip out – owners Nick and Jo provide a wealth of ideas tempting you to explore the local area and beyond.
  • Each of the properties has its own charming courtyard garden for alfresco dining – or you can head off to Southwold to rent the Belle Grove beach hut!
  • Well-behaved dogs are welcome and they, their owners and children will particularly enjoy the expanse of purposefully un-manicured gardens and two large wild ponds (the latter are unfenced and children must be accompanied).
