AN IRISH ESCAPE

Originally a 1920s worker’s cottage, today it’s a beautiful marriage of old and new; celebrating its past through retained features and décor, but thoroughly embracing the 21st century with its glass and steel extension and great kitchen. It’s truly a lovely space.

The Location

In heavenly Irish landscape, Powers Cottage is just outside of the village of Ballyshunnock.  It overlooks acres of beautiful countryside, with views from all angles.  Depending on the weather you might choose not to stray far from the woodburner or your beautiful deck, but if you do you’ve the craggy and majestic Comeragh mountains with their walks and trails and the wild and deserted ‘Copper coast’ nearby.

Near to the Waterford Greenway, a must see rural track following the disused railway running from Waterford to Dungarven – over 45 miles.

Dublin is 90 minutes drive and Cork an hour and 30 the other way – both have well served airports.  A car is really essential to make the most of this stunning location.

  • The interior design credentials of its owners shout out in every room and there’s a 1950s theme running throughout much of the house giving it a cool urban feel in rural Ireland
  • The peace and tranquility of this beautiful cottage. It’s a quick hop from well served airports, but feels a million miles away
  • The area is bursting with great activities and it very much retains a feeling of wildness and undiscovered beauty
  • There are plenty of good eateries around the area which your hosts will direct you to and lots of places to search out great local produce for cooking up back at the cottage
  • Waterford – Ireland’s oldest city – is just down the road with its low rise waterside beauty and Medieval laneways. Often overlooked it’s a lovely place to explore
  • Lovely sitting room with log burner and plenty of seating – there’s an LP player there to, with a collection of vinyl
  • A modern kitchen with extra seating and open plan dining – all opening on to the dining deck and then in turn to the garden and views beyond.  Handy BBQ for outside cooking
  • One double bedroom with super king sized bed.  This is supplemented by sofa beds in the sitting room and dining area for any extra guests
  • For nights in front of the fire there’s a TV with Sky and a DVD player with a selection of DVD. (No WiFI)

Paul Brewster and Shaun Clarkson have always loved coming to Ireland.  They particularly love the wild south eastern coast with its rugged countryside.  When the opportunity to buy Powers Cottage arose, they jumped at the chance.  Totally refurbishing the house and upgrading all the essentials for modern living the house is now a state of the art all mod cons home and with a dash of the owners interior design and fashion flair the house is a special mix of rural and urban.  They also own The House in Hastings, another designers dream.
