Truly Magical

A romantic hilltop trulli amongst olive and almond trees in tranquil open Italian countryside. Sleeping up to four it’s perfect for a couple or two couples looking for an escape with a swimming pool not far from the stunning hill-top towns of Ostuni and Martina Franca where you will find some fantastic foodie opportunities.

The Location

A beautifully restored Italian farmhouse (Trulli) set in almost a hectare of gardens and olive groves in the Valle d’Itria of Puglia. Quiet, rural and private with 180 degree views of surrounding hills and valleys.

Less than 10km to Martina Franca, Ceglie, Cisternino and Ostuni. The beaches at Ostuni are 25 minutes drive away and those on the Adriatic at Campomarino are about an hours drive away.

The nearest airport is at Brindisi (40 minutes drive) or Bari (1 hour 10 minutes drive). Both airports are served by most airlines.

  • the classic simplicity of this stylish and comfortable restoration of a traditional building which has retained many of it original features including the fireplace, stone archways and floors. An elevated position secures you the privacy and open views needed to create the sense of a real escape. The garden is beautifully designed and maintained and brims over with lavender, Oleander, etc and is generally a riot of colour and scent in the Summer
  • the countryside is gently rolling in these parts and perfect for cycling and hiking. This villa is right next to the new cycle route through Puglia which passes over a roman viaduct. Hire bikes from Ostuni (which can be delivered and collected – details provided by Glenn and Steve) and amble your way through the countryside, passing farms, and stopping off for a picnic and the odd bit of lunch time drinking
  • providing much of Italy’s olive oil, wine and fish, Puglia is a food lover’s paradise. Think really fresh seafood or lamb spit roast over thyme leaves washed down with a glass of local red. Don’t forget to sample the great wines of this region, including Primitivo, Negroamaro and Malvasia. The grapes that produce these wines are almost exclusively grown in Puglia which is why they are so prized. There are plenty of vineyards to visit
  • the spectacular azure coastline with uncrowded beaches are about 30 minutes drive away. Essentially the further along the coast you head towards the nature reserve and dunes the more spectacular and private it becomes. Check out this NATURE RESERVE BY THE SEA.
  • if you want to go further afield then head south and explore Greek Salento where the Greek-Byzantine influence is very strong and where the locals speak a dialect known as neo-Greek. Head towards Lecca and Galipoli for an area largely untouched by tourists. Lecce is is the jewel in the crown, home to the stunning  Santa Croce Basilica  and the vast Piazzadel Duomo bounded by the cathedral, the bishops palace and a seminary. Meanwhile Gallipoli by the sea is everything you would expect from a stylish Italian seaside town
  • the big joy is that you can enjoy all of these places without the jostling hordes that descend on Florence and Rome because its not on the tourist map … yet. This feature in the Guardian is an excellent overview of this area in terms of GAY TRAVEL or anyone tired of the usual gay resorts
  • two bedrooms and two bathrooms sleeping up to four. The mastersuite has a large double bed, a sitting area and the bathroom is ensuite. The second bedroom has a double or twin bed option
  • private swimming pool (10x5M) in beautiful landscaped gardens. Poolside shaded outdoor pergola, patio area and dining table with barbeque for al fresco dining
  • large modern eat-in fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, microwave and washing machine
  • DVD, WiFi, Ipod docking station in the comfortable sitting room
  • central Heating for those chilly out of season nights

Glenn and Steve have collectively worked all over the world and have now settled in the UK. Glenn, originally from the US, is a marketing consultant and Steve, from the UK, works in the technology sector.

Sick of the unpredictable UK weather, they were drawn to southern Italy in search of sunshine and beaches where they fell in love with Puglia’s rustic Italian authenticity – and the food and wine.

They both love the outdoors and Puglia has provided them with the perfect combination of climate, beaches, and opportunities for cycling and exploring the wonders of this largely unspoilt part of the world.

Glenn and Steve also own other beautiful villas in the area, and if Trulli Vistas is full (and it often is) then you should ask them about other options in the area. They include Trulli Roccia (3 bed/3 bath) details for which are also on Further Afield, Trulli Pesto  (2 bed/2 bath) and Trulli Pecorino (2 bed/ 2 bathrooms and all with  private pools.

Janice W. (July 2017) - Very relaxing week in a gorgeous trulli!

We had a very relaxing week in this beautiful Trulli. The property more than lived up to our expectations, in fact exceeded them, being even better than it looks in the images. The pool is stunning, it is hard to tear yourself away from the pagoda overlooking the pool and gardens (great place to watch the sunset) and the terrace is a lovely place to eat at any time of day. The property is very clean and well-equipped, much more so than other places we have visited. A dishwasher and washing machine are welcome features. The trulli is within easy driving distance of many Puglian towns and villages. Annie, the manager is available for help and advice about the local area and Glenn (the owner) was extremely responsive to all queries. We would highly recommend Trulli Vistas to anyone looking to get away from it all in a beautiful setting. We are planning to return!

Simon F. (June 2014) - Truly Magical

We loved the classic simplicity of this stylish and comfortable restoration of a traditional building which has retained many of it original features including the fireplace, stone archways and floors. An elevated position secures you the privacy and open views needed to create the sense of a real escape. The garden is beautifully designed and maintained and brims over with lavender, Oleander, etc and is generally a riot of colour and scent in the Summer. Most of the time we were just happy to lounge and read books either by the private pool or under the light shade of the pergola made supremely comfortable with an array of cushions. Day and night it was a perfect and hard to drag ourselves away from the pool. But you must because there are castles and cathedrals galore here – in an area well known for its architecture, history, cuisine, wine and welcoming people.
