The Zetter Townhouse

Clerkenwell, London, England

When you enter the Zetter Townhouse you cross a threshold into another world.  Leaving the city hustle and bustle behind for an eclectic and stylish country home come cocktail bar which begs you to relax, have a drink and take yourself a little less seriously.  It is a gay friendly boutique hotel with real humour and authentic original style.

The Location

The Zetter Townhouse is located in one of London’s most fashionable neighbourhoods, Clerkenwell, which boasts some of London’s best restaurants and bars, and a vibrant cultural scene.  Ideally situated on the edge of the City, and a 10 minute taxi ride away from the West End, The Zetter Townhouse looks out onto the historic cobblestones of St John’s Square right in the heart of this buzzing locale.

There are lots of buses into central London (10 minutes) and the Farringdon Street underground (Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan and Circle lines) is a 10 minute walk.

But really you are within easy walking of so much – lots of great restaurants and much more including MOROST JOHN’S, Bistro Du Vin, Club Gascon, SPITALFIELDS MARKET…even clubbing.

  • Humour: we defy you not to smile even giggle your way through this hotel. Framed needlepoint, stuffed birds in glass cases, a parasol wielding cat in crinoline. And if that fails to raise a smile then your only hope is a game of table tennis in the basement games room
  • Style: designer Russell Sage, has achieved a rare thing – classic stylish eccentricity
  • Clerkenwell – has its own stylish village feel. It has so much within walking distance (shops, restaurants, nightclubs) but if you want to venture into the heart of London then it is not far by taxi, bus or train.  And because it is a working part of town then it tends to be quieter at the weekends
  • Foodie heaven: so many old and new restaurant favourites to go at including the famous Moro and St John’s
  • Rooms ranging from Townhouse Club (small but perfectly formed with iPod dock, flat screen TV and REN bath products) to the Townhouse apartment with oodles of space, freestanding bath and Sonos sound system
  • There is nothing standard here – each room is a wonder with it owns hand-picked features including bedheads made of reclaimed fairground pieces and marble-trimmed bath sits
  • The en-suite bathrooms are small but perfectly formed and styled
  • Funky cocktail bar also serving great snacks like courgette fritters and charcuterie which can also be brought to your room
  • Lounge and breakfast room
  • Basement games room with 3D TV and Wii

Mark Sainsbury and Michael Benyan are also the founders and owners of the larger and very successful ZETTER HOTEL across the Square which they opened in 2004.  Having worked together previously on another Clerkenwell stalwart, the highly acclaimed Moro restaurant, they joined forces to buy an old Victorian warehouse building in the heart of the neighbourhood, and embark upon a massive hotel renovation project.

The Zetter Group now includes the Zetter Hotel, Zetter Townhouse Clerkenwell, Zetter Townhouse Marylebone and The Grainstore.
