Welcoming and tranquil Devon escape
Tucked away in a quiet conservation area but only minutes walk to the centre of the town and hidden behind owner Laura´s house (with a private entrance and its own private walled garden) this lovely little house in Buckfastleigh offers a relaxing sanctuary, perfect for evenings in the garden or in front of the wood burner depending on the season.
The Location
The Orangery is an ideal base for exploring the region, with Dartmoor and the stunning Devon coast easy and beautiful day trips. Riverside Totnes should be on the list for a day out where you can make the most of the water with kayaking and super bird watching before heading for superb culinary discoveries.
Equally Buckfastleigh, with its newly opened community arts centre, historic Abbey, open air swimming pool, great walks and pubs could keep you busy for a few days with no need to stray far.
Just off the Devon expressway at the end of the M5, driving is straightforward. There are trains from major towns and cities to Totnes.
- The open plan living space which flows out into the private garden lets you spread your wings and find some peace
- This is a hidden gem of a town. Just off the main road route but quiet and traditional, Buckfastleigh also has a lovely buzz. There are historic sights like the Abbey, an open air swimming pool, historic steam railway, a very rare colony of greater Horseshoe bats, live music, a gowing arts scene and great amenities including a wonderful wholefood community shop
- If you’re travelling with children Laura has created a welcoming home from home and it’s an area with plenty to keep little ones busy
- Equally if you have a four legged family member they are very welcome at The Orangery and they’ll love beach runs and exploring the moors as well as the nearby National Trust Hembury Woods
- Two bedrooms, one double and a second single. Sofa bed in sitting room
- Family and dog friendly
- Big, bright shower room
- Open plan kitchen, dining and living room with wood burner. There’s a sofa bed in the living space in case you have an extra person to accommodate
- Well equipped kitchen, WIFI and TV
- Private garden and parking
- All ages welcome and Laura can provide a cot and high chair to save space when you’re packing
- Although on one level there are steps into the house and to the garden so not totally friendly for those less mobile
Laura and her family’s home is next door and they offer a warm but discreet welcome. Laura is involved in the arts and community, including work as a theatre director and she is committed to social inclusion – core to being a Further Afield host.
