The Location
Nestled in wooded hillside with incredible views down to Start Bay on the South Devon coast, these houses are designed to fit into the landscape they are embraced by. Make the most of that location by hiking the coast path which runs past the houses or heading to the delights of the South Hams.
For less active days you have Blackpool Sands beach close by with its stretches of golden sands – although if you are feelng active there are plenty of water based activities to choose from too!
Nearby you have a choice of larger towns like Dartmouth and Totnes or even Salcombe as well as plenty of smaller villages to explore. There are masses of great places to eat and fresh produce to sample and both houses have great kitchens when you want to cook up those finds at home.
A car is the easiest way to make the most of your stay but you could take a train to Totnes and grab a taxi.

- The Rooks Nest sleeps 2 adults only with an open plan living area opening to a bedroom area all with access to the balcony
- The Cove sleeps 4 with 2 bedrooms (one of which has bunk beds) and has a large open plan space with wood burning stove and doors to the terrace. Over 5s are welcome here
- The Cove has a huge bathroom off the main bedroom and a separate WC downstairs
- The houses are lovingly furnished throughout and have beautifully fitted kitchens and bathrooms
- Both homes are designed to be as eco friendly as possible with Heat pumps / Heat recovery ventilation system, charging points
- TVs and Wifi
- Up to 2 well behaved dogs can be accomodated with notice
Hand Breaks is the shared vision of two couples Ross and Martha Travill and Richard and Claire Jeffery who are friends based near Lyme Regis in Bridport. With a shared background in the travel industry, they had a shared vision for creating unique self catering holiday experiences. Each were running their own successful private rentals in West Dorset when an opportunity came up to purchase a truly one-off piece of land in South Devon. They were lucky enough to snap it up and spent nearly six years planning and building the ultimate coastal retreats.
