The Location

Beautiful Somerset. So often overlooked as travellers head to Devon or Cornwall, it’s a county full of amazing natural and manmade attractions. Close to Wells – with its beautiful cathedral and Bishops Palace– Glastonbury and slightly further Bath and Bristol, Godney Arts House is well located to explore the area. Head out on foot or jump in the car to go further, but with so much close by (including a great local pub) you might not want to.

Castle Cary station is 40 minutes’ drive as is Bristol airport

  • The interiors of Godney Arts House are wonderful. Soft hews compliment the “contemporary industrial meets Georgian elegance” feeling. Its quirky interiors have been put together with an incredible eye for detail. Plus, much of the furniture and artwork are for sale as Jane and Simon use the house to showcase their work
  • The views from the house stretch out across the lovely Mendip Hills and to Glastonbury Tor, views which sooth the soul no matter what time of year it is and which encourage you to venture out to explore
  • The lack of light pollution makes for wonderful star gazing on clear nights
  • Each bedroom has an ensuite which is perfect for a group and the attic room, with its king and twin beds makes for a great family room
  • If arts are your thing then head to Hauser & Wirth’s Somerset space with its fascinating events and exhibitions housed in a beautiful setting
  • We love the straight forward attitude to looking after the environment that underpins Godney Arts House. Be respectful and do what you can
  • The house is great any time of year, but with winter comes the excuse to light the wood burner in the sitting room to help create the Hygge vibe
  • When you don’t want to cook there’s a good pub an easy walk away
  • Beautifully renovated and styled Georgian farmhouse sleeping up to 8 with views out across open countryside
  • Three ensuite bedrooms, one of which sleeps up to 4 with a King and twin beds – perfect family room
  • Traditional and comfortable sitting and dining room with marble fireplace & wood burner
  • Well fitted farmhouse kitchen with second eating space
  • Small cottage garden (but you’ve the Somerset countryside on your doorstep too)
  • Welcome hamper with locally sourced basics to kick start your stay

Jane and Simon have varied and fascinating pasts in the arts. Graphic design, fashion design, painting, interiors… they’ve ticked them all off. It’s this immersion in the arts and design that influences the stunning interiors and vibe of Godney Arts House.

Jane and Simon use the phrase “tread lightly on our environment” to describe their attitude to being as environmentally friendly as possible. Their simple measures include recycling as much as possible, using heavy, lined window treatments to help insulate plus electricity and hot water powered by the sun. It’s those little things that add up.
