The Location

Hotel Finca el Cerrillo is situated just outside Canillas de Albaida, a pretty Andalucian village 600 metres above sea level in the natural park of the Sierras Tejeda and Almijara. The area is stunning: olive groves, orchards and vineyards are dotted amongst whitewashed Andalucian villages and the natural park has spectacular views of the mountains and the sea. Despite being in a tranquil spot, it isn’t remote so you’ve towns and villages with good eating options nearby.

Getting there is easy – it’s about 1 hour east of Malaga by car and 2 hours from Granada. If you fancy the seaside, the coast can be reached by car in just 30 minutes.

  • The mature gardens, terraces and pool are stunning and the studio (perfect for yoga, painting, etc) a real sanctuary
  • The activities on offer here are extensive and thoughtfully put together, offering expertly curated access to this amazing region
  • The food is excellent. Local produce and attention to detail give guests a real flavour of Spain
  • You won’t find televisions at Finca el Cerrillo. This is a place where you switch off and forget about the rest of the world for a few days
  • There are 14 spacious bedrooms with air con/heating & Wifi
  • There’s one bedroom on the ground floor but none which are fully disabled access friendly
  • The inviting pool is the perfect place for a dip after a long day’s walking – or a long day unwinding!
  • The well-stocked honesty bar is a lovely touch, meaning you can enjoy an aperitif or a sundowner at your leisure
  • Sue and Gordon can usually provide evening meals five times a week and are only too happy to arrange reservations for you at other times
  • They specialise in walking, painting, writing and yoga holidays. There’s always something to choose from and the sheer number of repeat guests speaks volumes
  • Children over 12 are welcome and there’s an option for an extra bed in some rooms

Sue and Gordon Kind. Sue and Gordon have lived and worked at the hotel for the last 18 years lovingly rebuilding the derelict olive mill. Before that Gordon worked in theatre design in the UK and has brought his creative skills to bear on the Finca house and gardens. Sue has many years experience in looking after guests gained in a variety of hospitality roles.

The writing holiday was one of the best holidays I had ever had. The food was fantastic. The hospitality the best and the finca magical. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
