It’s hard to imagine a more cosy, romantic escape than this beautifully renovated cottage, quietly nesting in meadows overlooking the rugged beauty of Skye’s rolling hills.

The Location

This gay friendly cottage is a two minute walk to the shores of the Sound of Raasay at Camastianavaig bay. Whilst it’s remote the house is not isolated, with Portree – the island’s capital – and its shops and restaurants only five miles away. The A87 is near to the village so getting to the house is much easier than its location suggests.

The stunning natural backdrop to the cottage includes Ben Tianavaig, an easy hill walk immediately behind the house, which has stunning views down to the water. The wildlife includes otters, seals and eagles but there’s also the manmade delights of Skye to explore, whisky distilleries and castles are easy trips out.

The minimal and uber calm space that Sarah has created in this little house is simply beautiful
The Crofter’s House and Skye are all year round destinations. In summer, throw open the windows and relish the tranquility; in winter, get that peat burner fired up and catch up on your reading
When you want to interact you can, with Portree down the road offering enough shops and restaurants to keep you going
Sarah has pulled together some great places to eat (of which there are many on Skye) and days out, making your stay even more stress-free

Well-equipped kitchen with everything you’ll need however much cooking you plan to do (including a dishwasher). A shed houses the washing machine and tumble dryer (handy for living with Skye’s unpredictable weather)
The small but nicely designed space flows together, with the burner in the sitting room enough to heat the whole house in cooler weather – and the king-sized bed positioned to so you can fall asleep with its flames flickering across your room
Sarah has made concessions to modern day requirements, with wifi, 32″ flat screen TV, a collection of DVDs and BOSE bluetooth portable speaker
Beyond everything else it’s the location of this house that makes us love it… the views from the windows, the peace, the escape…
Each booking is subject to a £50 cleaning fee

Sarah owns a design agency and fell in love with Skye when she was working with clients based on the island. A fan of minimal living, she renovated The Crofter’s House with the intention of creating a calm and tranquil space on one of the most stunning and dramatic of the Scottish islands.

After a warm, personal welcome by email, guests are left in peace, but there’s a house book with useful information and contact details should you need them.

Lovely "real" cottage. Very cozy and well designed interior, love the scandinavian touch. The Crofter's House is fortunately one of the best cottage on Skye, highly recommended. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you might need and more. Spacious bedroom with very comfortable bed. The cottage is well supplied with electric heaters and wood-burner for colder days. Camastianavaig is a lovely base to explore Skye and only 10min drive from Portree. No sea view from the cottage but only a few steps down gives a wonderful view over Camastianavaig Bay and the Island Raasay in front. Can't wait to go back.
