The Location
Ardgour is the gateway to the Ardnamurchan peninsular, an area of outstanding natural beauty on the Scottish Highlands’ beguiling west coast.
From the house there are wide uninterrupted views up, down and across Loch Linnhe, one of the most spectacular sea lochs in the Highlands and the setting of Robert Louis Stevenson’s ‘Kidnapped’. From the other side is the equally beautiful view across neighbouring croft land towards Glen Gour and Ben Keil.
There are sandy, rugged, Highland beaches nearby as well as Fort William less than an hour away, both offering interesting options for a day out depending on the weather!
Whether walking, climbing, skiing, cycling, wild swimming, paddle boarding or sea kayaking is your thing, or simply immersing yourself in the beauty of the immediate surroundings, this is an ideal retreat.
It is most easily reached by the charming drive-on Corran Ferry or you can make the entire journey by road.

- The house itself has been lovingly renovated to create a warm and inviting contemporary space with stylish architectural details and furnishings
- The large, open plan sitting room with its bright colours, eclectic furnishings and wood burning stoves is a great place to kick back and make the most of all this peace
- Meals at the large kitchen table taking in the views – whatever the weather is throwing at you – are an event in themselves
- Outside there is a mature garden with long established shrubs; azaleas, hydrangeas, camellias, and what Catherine refers to as a “work in progress kitchen garden”
- Two compact bedrooms with king size beds upstairs with beautiful views across countryside and down to the sea
- Open plan living room running the entire length with bespoke folding doors so it’s possible to create a private snug at one end
- Well kitted out kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor which were brand new as part of Catherine’s complete rebuild of the house, finished in 2022
- Large gardens with mature planting and plenty of corners to sit and simply breath in the vistas and open air
- Laundry room in a converted garage – ideal for drying outdoor gear
- There is a SMART TV and Wifi thoughout, but Highland speeds are slower so be prepared to take it easy – part of the joy of a stay here
Catherine, originally from New Zealand, has spent most of her life based in London running an agency representing photographers. In an attempt to get nearer her roots, by the sea, she fell in love with this area of The Highlands and has created a beautiful home by completely restoring this croft.
