The Location

Bédar is perched on the mountainside with views down to the Med – it’s only 35 minutes from the wonderful Cabo de Gata national park where you can visit Europe’s only desert and explore vast, sandy beaches. Closer you’ve the more developed but just as lovely Mojacar – 20 minutes away. Bédar itself is also a lovely village to wander and soak up a slice of authentic Spain with some wonderful walking routes on the doorstep.

It’s also less than hour from Almeria’s international airport and the village has great road connections.

  • The vibe at Casa Caballito de Mar is quite simply laid back. The welcome is warm, professional and friendly and the suites designed as charming retreats
  • The village of Bédar is a real relief from some of the more developed villages, with its traditional bars and restaurant. But its location means you have access to places like Mojacar if the mood takes you
  • Alternatively head to the wonderfully unspoilt Cabo de Gata. Towns like San Jose or Las Negras, proper Spanish seaside harbor towns that retain their roots as well as the swathes of undeveloped beaches and coves to explore
  • The style that Carole and Steve have adopted in the suites is super comfy and the terraces lovingly tended. “Home from home” is over used, but here you really do feel you’re at home
  • The guys also have great contacts to help you plan any extras whilst you’re here. Things like painting or yoga classes, or more active things like kayaking or cycling
  • Two individually designed and decorated suites within a traditional Spanish village. Note the house and the village aren’t overly friendly to those less mobile
  • Each suite has a lovely ensuite and a private terrace
  • The larger suite, Bougainvillea, has a separate lounge area with day beds which can be converted to allow up to 4 guests in the suite, whilst Bamboo can be configured as a triple room
  • There’s nice communal spaces including a bar and lounge area which has an open fire in cooler months
  • Breakfast is a simple but lovely Spanish buffet breakfast which you take in the bar or on your terrace
  • Extras like snacks, light lunches, picnics and beach towels can be provided too

After marrying in La Capilla chapel, Mojácar, Carole and Steve decided to move to Spain full time. They’re in love with the haven they’ve created and serene and welcoming Bédar and are enjoying sharing both with their guests.
