Summer Loving in the UK 2021!

We’re excited about a summer during which travel looks set to be increasingly easy. With UK hotels and guest houses opening up and overseas travel routes due to be announced we’re dusting off our suitcases. To ease you back in here are a few suggestions from the collection for a UK break, all with availability during July and August, and a couple of “blue sky” suggestions. Let the packing commence!

Malvern View, Winchcombe, Gloucestershire

High up on a ridge with views across the stunning Cotswolds landscape in which it is nestled, the setting of Malvern House couldn’t be more picturesque. Quite literally just behind the house is Cleeve Common with a network of running and walking routes, making it an ideal escape if you’re after wide open spaces. Cathy and Marco’s dog friendly, family run B&B is also ideally located to visit stylish Cheltenham or stately homes like Berkeley Castle.

Manor Town House, Fishguard, Wales

This one is brand new to Further Afield and we love it. The interiors of this boutique B&B in Fishguard are gorgeous, with stylish decor and plenty of welcoming communal spaces. The gardens are lovingly tended with incredible views down to the sea and you can order a cream tea for an afternoon treat. The region is beautiful, with dramatic rocky coves and sandy beaches plus lovely towns to explore where you can sample superb seafood.

Piglets Boutique B&B, Essex

Set amongst the rolling green fields of Essex this converted farm building is now a contemporary B&B with a few surprises. As you’d expect there are superb breakfasts – they even include Bloody Marys to kick-start the day and there are plenty of less than usual menu options – and comfortable beds. But the B&B also has a wonderful natural swimming pool, a well equipped gym and games room and there’s an incredibly well stocked honesty bar. Ideal whatever the weather.

Kingham Plough, Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire

The Cotswolds, home to perfect villages for exploring, antique shops to peruse, gorgeous pathways to tramp and great country pubs. One of our favourites is the Kingham Plough which, with its six pretty bedrooms, also makes for the perfect base while making the most of the region. The restaurant is superb and offers dishes based around local produce and artisan suppliers. A typical menu includes dishes like crab rarebit and Herfordshire rib eye steak.

St Michael’s, Falmouth, Cornwall

Head down to Falmouth (taking the train if you fancy a super easy time of it) and discover St Michael’s Resort. Across the road from the hotel you can get sand between your toes on Gyllyngvase Beach, or maybe stretch your legs on one of the wonderful coastal walks which start at the front door. Maybe, book yourself a session in the hotel’s spa, but whatever you do, we’d suggest seeing out the day with dinner at one of the hotel’s great restaurants.

Rowhill Grange, Kent

The original house and grounds at Rowhill Grange are beautiful with an English country house feel, but the interiors are modern and eclectic. The hotel also has the added bonus of its award-winning spa with two pools plus numerous treatment options and a choice of great restaurants. Rowhill Grange is currently offering a “Spa-cation” package through which you get two nights, spa time and dinner discounts; a great way to celebrate summer and the return of travel.
