Spring & Easter Breaks Abroad
Spring and the Easter holidays are a great time of year to enjoy a break a little further afield, whether it’s somewhere slightly warmer or simply a region you’ve never explored before. We’ve curated some fantastic places we think you might like to go for a jaunt – the only decision you need to make is which one to choose.
La Grande Maison, Loire Valley, France
A tranquil and romantic 17th-century manor guesthouse with the emphasis on great local food and wine. Situated on a hill in the heart of the Loire Valley, Easter is a gorgeous time to visit as the weather is just starting to warm up. To tempt you further, why not take one of their wine tours – there’s even a special Easter Chocoholics’ Wine Tour. Yum!
Hotel Flora, Gothenburg, Sweden
Sweden in springtime is fabulous. Emerging from often colder winters, the streets start to fill and the cafe culture arrives again. Gothenburg, with its moat, cobbled laneways and parks, is a beautiful city year round, but spring sees it bloom. The Flora is a superb base in the heart of the city and its quirky design a real haven.
El Nispero Dulce, Malaga, Spain
Tucked away in a valley overlooking olive groves and orchards sweeping down to the coast, this intimate B&B is the perfect place to escape and recharge. If you want to head out, you’ll find natural parks, beautiful hilltop villages and a stunning coastline. It really is the perfect mix.
Domaine De Perches, Gaillac, SW France
Surrounded by vineyards, Domaine de Perches is an elegant and relaxing retreat and an ideal base to discover the riches of this wonderful area of France: The quiet valley of vines, meadows and woods are begging to be explored and the shops, restaurants and markets of Castelnau and Gaillac are only a few minutes’ drive from the house.
Velona’s Jungle Suites, Florence, Italy
We love finding a beautifully designed guesthouse full of unusual art and antiques. And when it’s run by someone as lovely as Veronica, we want to move in! In a central, but not too touristy part of Florence, this four room guesthouse has the city’s top sights on its doorstep but feels like you’re staying with friends.
Nardosalento Boutique Apartments, Puglia, Italy
Just five miles from the Ionian Sea, these stylish apartments form part of a lovingly restored 17th-century Patrician palazzo just a minute’s walk from the spectacular Piazza Salandra. This Easter, Further Afield customers can enjoy an additional complimentary night’s stay when booking for 5 or 6 nights at either Agrumeto (sleeps 4), or La Corte (sleeps 7).
Julesy’s B&B, Cospicua, Malta
Just 15 minutes from the airport is Julesy’s B&B, an 18th-century townhouse decorated with a lovely, fresh colour palette whilst also retaining its beautiful original features. There are stunning views towards The Grand Harbour from the sun-drenched roof-terrace – perfect for an aperitif while you soak up the vista.
Almohalla 51, Malaga, Spain
In the historic hilltop town of Archidona, famous for its Semana Santa (Easter week) parades and celebrations, this boutique B&B is a great base to just chill out or to explore the area. Ronda, Granada and Cordoba are all nearby as is fabulous Malaga with its museums, beaches and great food.
Villa de Mazamet, SW France
Set in the lovely village of Mazamet, with its markets and its proximity to Carcassonne and Albi, Villa de Mazamet offers a refined but welcoming base to explore this beautiful area. Dinner at this multi-award winning guesthouse is a treat, but there are plenty of great eating options nearby too. Easter special available.
