Christmas & New Year’s Eve Breaks in the UK 2019
If you’re thinking about a short break in the UK over Christmas and New Year it pays to be organised. Here’s a few ideas for hotel and B&B breaks, plus some self catering options from the Further Afield collection:
GUEST HOUSES AND BOUTIQUE HOTELS
Tuddenham Mill – Suffolk
The romance of Tuddenham Mill cannot be exaggerated. Throw in Christmas and New Year hotel break packages including lunches and dinners in their award-winning restaurant and it becomes the ideal festive bolthole. Two night package prices over Christmas start from £780 (or for another £100 stay Boxing Day too) and over New Year from £750
Artist Residence Oxfordshire
Head to the countryside outside of Oxford and hole up in this stunning thatched pub with restaurant and super, eclectically styled rooms. Check out the Shepherd’s Hut for a romantic bolthole – in the grounds but with access to all things Artist Residence. Beautiful.
St Valery – Alnmouth
The perfect reboot after Christmas and before seeing in 2019 could be a couple of nights with Harvey at this chilled out and stylish B&B. Walks along the beach, great pub food and you can take your canine friend too! A perfect Christmas present to yourself.
The Punch Bowl Inn – Cumbria
With special rates for Christmas including 2 nights’ accommodation, mulled wine & mince pies on arrival, 3 course dinner on Christmas eve, traditional Christmas day lunch, pantry supper on Christmas night and a full Cumbrian breakfast each morning for £790 for two it’s a gift! New Year package from £829.
St Michael’s Resort – Cornwall
With a great range of Christmas, New Year and Twix’mas rates and packages (which you can see here – https://www.stmichaelsresort.com/offers-and-breaks/christmas-and-new-year-breaks) head to Falmouth and celebrate in style.
Georgian House – London
Whilst the rest of the city leaves London for Christmas how about heading to Georgian House for a few days and holing up in one of their lovely rooms – including the Wizard Chambers (above). Explore the city or don’t, but either way this would be an unforgettable Christmas.
Just for Two: cosy Christmas Holiday Cottages
The Tree House at Crafty Camping – Dorset
Something out of the norm this year maybe? Check out The Tree House; a super cozy and stylish retreat for two in a Dorset woodland.
Hop Pickers’ House – Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire
This ancient converted barn is an ideal bolthole over the festive period. Sink into the four poster bed, or settle down in front of the wood burning stove. Venturing out? Plenty on the doorstep including a pub within walking distance.
The Pink Tower – Nr Salisbury, Wiltshire
A unique and quirky hideout for two on a working farm – perfect to see in 2020. Its upside down layout means light and views from your living room and being tucked away downstairs when you head down the stairs to “Bedfordshire”. A walker’s dream too.
Abbey Stables – Cornwall
We love this cozy cottage for two in Penzance. Hidden away with plenty of privacy but right in the heart of the town it’s a proper retreat for two.
Cartshed Cottages – Norfolk
The cottages in the converted outhouses of this manor house are stylish and comfortable whilst retaining their character and charm. We love the simple palette used throughout as well as heading out to explore this fascinating part of the world. Availability’s limited, but with five cottages it’s worth a try.
The Store at Wellhayes – Dorset
On the edge of a private lake with amazing views is this beyond cute house for two. Being small doesn’t mean missing out on space or a wood burner! Plenty to explore nearby including fab coastal walks.
The Loft – Stow-on-the-Wold
With it’s stunning decor and cozy vibe this is an ideal escape for two in The Cotswolds. Just off the High Street it’s quiet but at the same time everything is on hand including great bars and restaurants plus an area of incredible natural beauty to explore.
Family & Friends: Larger Houses to Rent for Christmas or New Year
Cowslip Cottage – Cornwall (sleeps 5)
This lovely Cornish cottage has a really rustic and relaxed vibe – perfect for kicking back and celebrating Christmas. Log fire. Great sofas. Amazing walks. Dog friendly. Big kitchen. It has it all.
Old Barn Tregonetha – Cornwall (sleeps 5)
This multi award-winning barn conversion is a stunning setting to see in the new year. With its AGA, wood burning stove and grand piano it almost feels like you’ve stepped back in time. Luckily the mod cons and eco-friendly credentials remind you that this is very much a 21st-century bolthole. Stephen will arrange your shopping to be done for you too. If only the whole of 2020 could be this lovely.
Little Winters Cottage – Dorset (sleeps 6)
Nestled in lovely Dorset gardens with amazing views is this converted barn with three bedrooms and a great open plan living space. A wood burner if it’s cold or throw open the French windows on crisp sunny days. Plenty of walks, including just a 20 minute walk to a country pub. Nice one.
Godney Arts House – Somerset (sleeps 6 – 8)
Oh, this house… if we could find a “swoon” emoji we’d use it. A piece of rural bliss but with an artist’s eye for interiors. All three bedrooms have their own en suite, making festive get togethers easier and there’s plenty of communal space too. Jane and Simon are offering a 5% discount on Christmas for 6 at Godney Arts House for 2019.
