Weddings & Celebrations
The Punch Bowl Inn offers what it describes as “a relaxed and informal, but chic and stylish Lake District venue”. It’s a lovely, intimate place to hold a celebration of any type and you have numerous options including taking over the whole venue, dinners for 18 or buffet for up to 70.

The Location

Situated in the heart of the unspoilt Lyth Valley on the edge of the charming village of Crosthwaite, near Kendal.  The location is picture perfect and there are lots of walks from the door, which is in the heart of pretty damson country so no need to get back in the car.

A short stroll from the village (one & a quarter mile) will take you up to Starnthwaite Ghyll, which was once a thriving mill or head the short distance down the valley and walk up Gummers How which at just over 1,000 feet commands great views of the full length of Windermere.

Around four and a half hour’s drive from London and an hour and a half drive from Manchester. The nearest mainline train station is Oxenholme Lake District which is 20 minutes drive in a taxi.

  • the slates found beneath the old dining room floor are now laid in the bar and complement the beautiful Brathay slate bar top and antique furniture.  There are lots of cosy corners to curl up in front of the fire and just relax
  • each bedroom is well proportioned and the bathrooms are large and luxurious
  • there is an extensive menu and lots of excellent local produce.  Choose from Queenie scallops, grilled with garlic and gruyere to slow cooked pork belly, savoy cabbage and bacon, creamed potato and their signature dish is twice baked cheese soufflé
  • there is an amazing honeymoon suite which is huge, beautiful and feels very private, like your own apartment
  • peace…perfect peace
  • all nine rooms take their names from the list of past incumbents of Crosthwaite parish church
  • each room is individually designed and they all have flat screen TV’s, Wifi, Roberts Revival radios and adjoining bathrooms with underfloor heated limestone floors, free standing roll-top baths and separate powerful showers

The kitchen team concentrate on providing a menu which features the best of local, seasonal produce which can be enjoyed in either the bar or restaurant.
  • the bar is what you hope to find in the Lake District, slate floors and antique furniture, and off the bar are two rooms with lots of space to eat and drink or just to relax with a pint and a daily newspaper in front of an open fire.  Choose from champagne by the glass, a range of wines, and foreign draught and bottled beers are alongside a range of hand pulled real ales
  • in room massage, facial and pedicure treatments can be arranged
  • bikes can be hired and delivered

The Punch Bowl is the inspiration of local lad, Richard Rose.  He and his team (led by Gareth Hussey) are committed to first class Cumbrian hospitality and food which shines through here.  It is no surprise that The Punch Bowl is a consistent award winner time after time and manages to be both a great quality local pub for regulars as well as a top destination inn that attracts people from all over the country.
