Reni Pani Jungle Lodge

Satpura Park, Madhya Pradesh, India

Jungle Odyssey

Twelve luxury gay friendly lodges which sit unobtrusively in 30 acres of forest landscape, a short drive from one of India’s largest and least frequented national parks – this is India at its glorious best. Faiz and Aly maintain extraordinary levels of guest pampering aided by the kindest and most well trained of staff amidst some spectacular countryside and amazing wildlife.

Location

Satpura National Park is in the middle of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, 135kms (two to three hours drive) west of Bhopal and 75kms (with similar driving times)  east of the hill station of Pachmarhi. The nearest airport is Bhopal and major train station is Itarsi (75 Kms) and there are several nearby local train stations from where you can be collected.

Reni Pani  located 6 Kms from the  Satpura Tiger Reserve and you get into the park via a short drive and boat trip which adds to the cut off, otherworldly feel of the place. There is a cap on the number of jeeps allowed into the park, making it extraordinarily quiet. Rated by BBC wildlife as the best place to see sloth bears, guests can  expect to see leopards, packs of wild dogs, sambar, cheetal, black buck, nilgai, wild boar, gaur, crocodiles, flying squirrels and the elusive tiger. Being surrounded by a river Satpura is also home to a variety of migratory and local birds. The park’s landscape, with its undulating terrain including hills, seasonal streams, open medows and thick forest makes the location truly stunning.

About The Owners

Brothers Faiz and Aly have a family background in the hotel business and happy memories of childhoods spent holidaying in the jungle with their wildlife enthusiast father. They are young and energetic with wise heads on strong shoulders, and really nice people to spend time with. Their ethics are unfaultable.

  • The imaginative surprises that are cooked up by Faiz and Aly: a late breakfast laid out in a forest glade; tea and cakes produced from a knapsack on a walk; waking to the ‘alarm call’ of the cook’s flute.
  • The genuinely friendly attentiveness of the staff, who are well paid and well respected.
  • Watching the sun rise as one crosses the river at dawn; walking through the jungle as the light filters through the trees; seeing huge spiders in vast webs glittering with dewdrops; catching a glimpse of a trio of sloth bears, a mother and two cubs staring at us for a second before lolloping back into the woods.
  • Sitting on the veranda, drink in hand, listening to the sounds of the jungle and anticipating yet another delectable meal.

  • Twelve double cottages: the cottages at Reni Pani are all self contained, in three different styles: overlooking the Satpura range(hill units); buried in the forest (forest units); or along the brook (nallah units) that runs through the property. The gorgeous bathrooms have showers both inside and out (washing the dust off in the evening in an open-to-the-sky shower is a not to be missed delight) and the bedrooms are vast and stylishly furnished.
  • A deliciously cool swimming pool which is discreetly tucked behind a bamboo screen offering privacy from the Gol Ghar (the dining and meeting place) without losing the views of the hills and forest and amazing birdlife.
  • Dining: four chefs from different regions of India provide amazing meals with a variety of Indian cooking influences. There is also an outdoor barbeque where you can also learn about Indian cooking.
  • Activities: horse riding; cycling trips to local villages and nature spots; pottery classes; motor boat, canoeing, walking, jeep and elephant safaris; local nature walks.
  • Bar, massage, library, onsite wildlife expert and a souvenir shop .
