BOUTIQUE RETREAT

Picture the scene…the endless rolling plains of Andalusian countryside interrupted by the isolated silhouette of a hacienda style boutique hotel.  Welcome to Hacienda de San Rafael.  Nestled between fields of wheat, sunflowers and cotton, the Hacienda’s yellow and white façade, typical of the region, strikes an impressive pose of grandeur without ostentation.  The scene is set, expectations are high and it doesn’t disappoint.

The Location

Set in a 350 acre working farm, this beautifully restored cortijo (country house) is located midway between Seville and Jerez de la Frontera. You will need a car to get here – either hire car or the Hacienda can arrange airport transfers.

Seville airport is a 45 minute drive. Jerez is 30 minutes and Cadíz is 45 minutes.

There are regular flights into Seville and Jerez.

  • Beautifully furnished throughout – peppered with interesting family treasures including the boys’ grandfather’s 80 year old stirrups on the wall above the open fireplace
  • Eating breakfast outside under the tile-roofed loggia with wicker chairs and blue and white checked tablecloths surrounded by the scent of the bougainvillea
  • Lunchtime tapas and alfresco dinners in the beautiful gardens leave you with no urge to wander beyond the hotel gates and resigning yourself to another day by the pool…heaven!
  • The Luna Bar – an outdoor bar with music and white comfy cushions to lounge on after dinner – you could be in Ibiza. Very contemporary. Very cool!
  • Enjoying Seville’s Mudéjar architecture and food, Jerez’s beaches and the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art
  • 11 large duplex double/twin bedrooms with open plan bathrooms and mezzanine areas for those essential afternoon naps
  • Bedrooms are set off a terracotta paved courtyard surrounded by stunning cerise and orange bougainvillaea

These casitas have an Eastern and African influenced décor and share their own private garden and infinity pool and a full complement of staff to cater to your every whim
  • All the rooms have high thatched ceilings and have been beautifully restored in a traditional Andalusian style sensitively retaining their original features blending in antiques, modern art from the family collection and contemporary furnishings

  • Five acres of beautiful gardens planted with oleander, bougainvillea, lemon, pomegranate, olive and carob trees – a riot of colour in mid summer.
  • Wifi, CD player and satellite TV.
  • Mediterranean restaurant tucked away in the gardens which has alfresco dining in the warmer months.  An excellent three course dinner of local seasonal produce is served every night – everyone eats the same but special dietary requirements are catered for

  • Massage and yoga can be arranged on request
  • The Hacienda can arrange an extensive array of activities for guests on request – from guided tours of local bodegas to bird watching in Doñana National Park to cookery classes with a renown chef to kite surfing on the coast to visits to local bull breeding farms

The Reid family have owned the former olive farm for the last 150 years. The youngest generation, Patrick and Anthony, have lovingly brought this imposing property into the 21st century creating a boutique hotel which stands apart. But the whole family have played their part in merging rustic charm with contemporary luxury – Kuky, their mum, from nearby Jerez, has influenced the eclectic interior design. Her husband, Tim, has brought his experience of working at the top end of the hotelier industry. Patrick was a project manager at the Groucho Club and Anthony organized luxury safaris in Botswana. With this skill set they were always going to get it spot on. They also own super chic Corral de Rey in Seville.
