Pin Mill & the Suffolk Food Hall – the perfect holiday afternoon

Pin Mill

Carl Scott, Owner of the GRANARY, WOODFARM BARNS tells us about some of favourite places to visit in Suffolk. I try to get out as much as I can and visit all the amazing places in Suffolk so that we can spread the word for our holiday cottage guests. It’s a tough job but someone’s gotta do it! Riverside destinations are pretty much up there as my favourite Suffolk holiday places to choose. Pin Mill on the River Orwell is simply stunning and such a popular choice with our holiday cottage guests

Orwell BridgeI like to get down to Pin Mill and the Butt & Oyster pub and restaurant as often as I can. A great stop off on the way is the Suffolk Food Hall just under the Orwell bridge and only five minutes or so from Pin Mill

All of this is within half an hour of OUR HOLIDAY COTTAGES so a nice easy morning or afternoon out for our guests.

THE SUFFOLK FOOD HALL

Suffolk food hallIt also has a number of independent catering businesses operating within small units under the restaurant. There’s a fabulous garden centre and gift shop, with very knowledgeable staff and a massive bouncy ‘pillow’ for the kids to play on The Suffolk Food Hall is an absolute triumph in my humble opinion.  It has a fabulous food hall with lots of delicious local artisan foods, as well as lots of fare from further afield (no pun intended!) too. It also has a coffee shop and a more formal restaurant with stunning views over the iconic Orwell Bridge

PIN MILL ON THE RIVER ORWELL, SUFFOLK

A tiny little riverside hamlet a few miles along from the Suffolk Food Hall. It’s pretty much known for the Butt & Oyster pub and the river views. There’s a small boatyard here and a number of moorings, mainly occupied by old barges

THE BUTT & OYSTER OVERLOOKING THE RIVER ORWELL, SUFFOLK

Part of the local Deben Inns group, all well known for fabulous food and drinks, they are always very well frequented. The Butt & Oyster is what I call a ‘proper’ old pub. Old wooden floors, battered wooden furniture, beer barrels behind the bar, serving a great selection of local ales, including the obligatory Adnams; the regions favourite tipple. All the food is freshly prepared and as you might imagine, features lots of seafood

So if you fancy treating yourself to some great food treats to bring back to your holiday cottage and have a great lunch out with some amazing views then plan a trip to Pin Mill. Written by Carl Scott, owner of the GRANARY, WOODFARM BARNS IN SUFFOLK.
