Le Marche, near Tuscany & Umbria, Italy

Luxurious hillside Abbey

With three acres of garden and private woodland, this stunning seven bedroom abbey (including two separate apartments each sleeping two) is in a magnificent position overlooking rolling hills and mountain valleys in the heart of Italy. All areas of this holiday home offer lavish comfort and style.

The Abbey is in the Province of Pesaro and Urbino, located in the north west of Le Marche, one of Italy’s three central regions alongside Umbria and Tuscany (whose borders are only 20 minutes’ away). You can fly direct to Ancona airport, just over an hour’s drive away, where it is best to hire a car to reach the house.

Once you’ve arrived, you can simply bask in the luxury of your surroundings or head out by car to the local towns (where there are plenty of restaurants and shopping) or further afield to the coastal towns of Rimini, Fano and Pesaro, all just an hour’s drive away. The region is steeped in history waiting to be explored and enjoyed – from archeological sites and castles to pageants in the old town centres.

About The Owners

Ian runs a PR firm in London and bought the abbey eight years ago, when he fell in love with the views. He spent four years renovating 20 of the rooms and creating an oasis of pleasure.

  • Sinking into endless cushions and steeping ourselves in the grandeur and glamorous style of this property. We never tired of the views and welcomed the utter privacy.  Enjoyed by families, groups of friends, artists and yoga fans seeking relaxation and inspiration from around the world – the house is particularly popular with visitors from the USA looking into their history.
  • Trying out the pizza oven (with a generous glass of local wine in hand) and cooking up a real alfresco Italian feast from delicious local ingredients from the region – known as the ‘larder of Italy’.
  • From an evening or afternoon at the local cinema in the nearby town to shopping (or just admiring) the ceramics for which the area is famous, there is plenty to do once you set out from the Abbey.
  • The sheer adventure and rare treat of a white truffle excursion in the autumn – enjoyed on the terrace with the help of some culinary advice from the locals!

  • The Abbey consists of a large main house with five bedrooms, plus two self-contained apartments each sleeping two, an ancient church and tower leading onto a grand terrace, several gardens and a gazebo. The entire property can sleep 14, but additional beds can be provided to sleep up to 20.
  • The five generous double bedrooms of the main house are exquisitely furnished with individual and antique pieces providing luxurious comfort in this splendid house. There are four en-suite bathrooms – contemporary spaces where relaxation is easy.
  • In addition, the Stables Apartment (sleeping two) is completely separate from the main house, and has its own terrace and private garden. It comprises a kitchen, sitting room, music room with baby grand piano, bathroom and double bedroom. The Apartment can be hired with the house, or is rented out as a separate self catering property.
  • The Mountain View Apartment (sleeping two) comprises a bedroom, bathroom and sitting room.
  • In the main house there are two kitchens, one larger to throw a dinner party for twelve with ease – and cook up an alfresco feast to enjoy on the large outdoor terrace. Here you can marvel at views across wooded hillsides – where Italy’s finest white truffles are waiting to be discovered (excursions can be arranged for guests in the autumn months).
  • Well cushioned sofas, well-stocked bookshelves and ample lounging define the four sitting room spaces that guests can relax into – if you tire of the leaning on the terrace balcony with your G&T.
  • If you are seeking your own peace, you can enjoy the magnificent ancient church, in original form that is part of this property – or you wander the gardens that belong to the Abbey.
