HOTEL DE PARIS

Saint Tropez, France

JET-SET SPLENDOUR

Formerly graced by the likes of Jean Cocteau, Coco Chanel, Clarke Gable and Brigitte Bardot, this über stylish hotel is a five star legend. A getaway for the wealthy and glamorous, the hotel that has a spectacular suspended swimming pool above the lobby, is a stunning venue from which to experience the decadent resort.

Location

Situated in the middle of the world famous village of St Tropez on the French Riviera, the hotel is a couple of minutes walk away from the harbour, where the rich and famous moor their yachts and sup champagne. If you're into shopping, Chanel is a stone's throw away from the hotel, among many other designer boutiques that you'd normally expect to see in cities like Paris.

This is the same for eateries and bars; St Tropez is packed with excusive restaurants frequented by a vast array of celebrities. If that's all a bit showy for you, look out for the Place des Lices Market, where you'll find an interesting array of stalls, as well as cafes aplenty in which to drink coffee, eat croissants and people watch. There are small modern art galleries and interesting architecture to appreciate, but St Tropez is more about being seen than looking at things!

The famous Pampelonne beach frequented by body beautifuls, is a car ride away but the hotel will organise a private shuttle service, with freshly laundered beach towels thrown in.  And if you wish to venture further afield, wine-tasting trips are a good option, as are boat trips to French hotspots along the coast. The nearest airport to Saint Tropez is Toulon - Hyeres, approx 50 mins away. Or you can fly to Nice, which is about 1.5hr away. If you're in a particular hurry to order a cocktail or dive into the hotel's pool, you can get there by helicopter from Nice International Airport or Toulon - Hyeres Airport in just a few minutes. Sounds like a plan.

  • The hotel breathes luxury, designed with the international jet set in mind and we'd be hard pressed to find anything not to like!
  • The pool above the lobby is particularly lovely, so you can see glimpses of people swimming as you walk through the hotel. It's also a bar, lit up with beautiful lights at night.
  • When we arrived there were truffles and sweet treats left for us as a welcome - a lovely touch.
  • The concierge is second to none - offering to arrange everything from a shuttle service to the beach to helicopter transfers!
  • We ate at The Roof and enjoyed a delicious sushi lunch.
  • The sculptures, photography and lighting design in the hotel were amazing.
  • The location is fantastic. You're in the heart of the 'village' and so can see plenty of St Tropez on foot, which is great since the traffic is a problem in summer.

  • There are 52 rooms and 38 suites available, (ranging from junior to prestige and terrace suites), with stunning views of the bay, village lanes or landscaped patio.
  • The impressive pool, suspended over the lobby, has a transparent bottom, so you can see water and swimmers when you check in!
  • The Spa by Clarins offers beauty, relaxation and slimming treatments.
  • On the second floor is a gym, with a private coach available.
  • There's a cafe, cocktail bar and several restaurants at the hotel, including a The Suffren Cafe, a French style bistro and The Roof, which is a Japanese and French fusion restaurant.
  • The decor, designed with the 60s and 70s in mind, comprises of white and contrasting bright colours.
  • There's free wireless internet in rooms, along with 3D LED TV screen/VOD/Bluetooth dock, HDMI cable and USB port on TV. DVD player on request.
  • Mini bar and safety deposit box.
  • Spacious, luxury bathrooms with Clarins toiletries and organic bathroom linen.
  • Room service, at all hours, twice daily housekeeping, complimentary newspaper, car rental and limousine transfer.
  • Concierge service.
  • The Dolce Vita suite, covering 130sqm, is on the top floor of the hotel and includes a private sun terrace and dining area, large living room, dining room, private office, sea views, jacuzzi and more.
