A Pampla

Parada de Achas, Galicia, Spain

Relax and restore in the Galician countryside

With its wooden beams and restored stone features, you wake up in this rustic, cosy 200 year old cottage called A Pampla, to dreamy views across the verdant, misty hills.

A Pampla is set alongside the family-run vineyard that produces crisp white wines from the Albariño grape, from which you can enjoy a glass or two on the open terrace.  The two-storey house has been lovingly restored, exposing beams and original stone-work, with windows that fill the space with rays of light.  The quiet location makes for a perfect place to escape to and restore the natural senses, enjoy the wide selection of books left by the owners, sit on the terrace to take in the views or set off for a walk through the green rolling countryside that is so unique to this part of Spain.

Location

Galicia is the north-western region of Spain that borders Portugal and the rugged north Atlantic, and whilst many hundreds of miles south from Ireland, the scenery is uncannily similar.  The cottage is located near the hamlet of Parada de Achas in Pontevedra province, and looks down through the valley onto the Deva and Miño rivers. Just a one-hour drive from the coastal city of Vigo, it´s easily accessible.

About The Owners

Magdalena and Javi caringly restored A Pampa in 2004, being as respectful to the original structure as possible. The house has true family history and was originally bought by Magdalena´s grandfather and a place she visited as a little girl. They passionately carry on the original work of her grandparents who originally sold wine from the same vineyards from the 1950´s until the late 80´s.

They truly believe that the magic of A Pampa should be enjoyed by everyone and do everything to ensure your stay is as memorable as possible.

  • If you come at harvest time, or what is locally known as la vendimia you can muck in with the grape picking which is a lively and fun activity, but not too strenuous of course!! Picnics and wine tastings are also temptingly available at the vineyard.
  • Free bike use to enjoy the surrounding countryside
  • Summer swimming in the local rivers and reservoirs
  • If you don´t speak Spanish already, why not get more out of your stay and take one of the Spanish courses on offer; you´ll get a greater insight into the community and culture of the region.
  • You can take your four-legged friend and then let him take you for a walk in the hills!

  • Fully equipped kitchen and washing machine
  • Great selection of books to enjoy and read about the local area
  • Parking
  • Central heating
  • Amazing views!
